Laptop-Friendly Shisha Café in Gakugei-daigaku: Wi-Fi, Outlets & Day Sets

Work or read alone at shisha bar IORI, 30 seconds from Gakugei-daigaku Station. All-seat Wi-Fi and power outlets, daytime shisha sets and Instagram DM booking.

Daytime at shisha bar IORI, with café tables and sofa seats by the windows

Looking for somewhere to open your laptop for a few hours near Shibuya, without the rush of a chain café? shisha bar IORI is a small hookah café and bar in Gakugei-daigaku, about 7 minutes from Shibuya by train. In the afternoon it’s a calm place to work or study — with hookah and a drink. This is a shisha café: a minimum of one pipe per two guests and one drink per person applies. Here’s what to know before you bring your laptop.

Power outlets and Wi-Fi at every seat

Every seat in the lounge has a power outlet and free Wi-Fi, so you don’t need to hunt for a plug.

  • Outlets and Wi-Fi: at every seat
  • Laptop cushions and chargers: available to borrow (limited numbers)
  • Café tables: large tables with room for a laptop, notebook and papers
  • Sofa seats: for reading, thinking or taking a break

If you prefer a table for typing or writing, tell us when you book or arrive. There are 10 indoor seats, so availability varies. Phone calls and online meetings are welcome as long as they do not disturb other guests. This is a shared lounge, without private work booths; please be considerate of the people around you.

Afternoon prices: arrive before 6 PM

Our seat charge is per person and depends on the time you arrive. Arrive before 6 PM and there’s no seat charge. (From 6 PM it’s ¥500, from 9 PM ¥750 and from 12 AM ¥1,000.)

For guests arriving from opening until 6 PM, we also offer three Day Sets, with one set per person:

  • Shisha Set: ¥3,100 — one pipe and one set drink.
  • Shisha + Free-flow Drinks: ¥3,600 — one pipe and free-flow set drinks. Drink last order is two hours after you order the set.
  • Long-stay Set: ¥5,000 — one pipe, one bowl replacement (flavor change), and free-flow set drinks. Drink last order is three hours and 30 minutes after you order the set.

The free-flow drink clock starts when you order the set, not when you arrive. It determines when you can place your last drink order; it does not set a maximum length for your stay. Set drinks include coffee, jasmine tea, oolong tea, black tea and juice. Café latte, matcha latte and milk chai cost an extra ¥100 per drink.

For comparison, ordering separately before 6 PM costs from ¥3,380 for one guest: a regular pipe at ¥2,800 plus a soft drink from ¥580, with no seat charge. Extra drinks and options cost more. The Day Sets have their own prices and inclusions; see the menu and pricing guide before choosing.

Note that on Tuesday–Friday we open at 3 PM, so the Day Sets apply to arrivals between 3 PM and 6 PM on those days. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays we open at 1 PM. We’re closed on Mondays (unless it’s a public holiday) and on the day after a public holiday.

Staying into the evening

The seat charge is set by the time you arrive, not by how long you stay. Arrive before 6 PM and there’s no seat charge, even if you keep working after dark. Tuesday–Thursday closing is 1:30 AM (last order midnight); Friday and Saturday closing is 5 AM (last order 3:30 AM). Sunday closing is midnight. Public holidays open at 1 PM and close at 5 AM if followed by a weekend or public holiday, otherwise at midnight. The evenings before public holidays close at 5 AM. Check our opening hours for the day you plan to visit.

When you’re ready to switch off, the bar has Islay and Japanese whiskies and Japanese craft gins, with alcoholic drinks from ¥780.

Ordering without leaving your seat

We have an English menu, and our in-store mobile ordering system supports English too, so you can order a refill or another pipe without interrupting your flow.

Hookah while you work: keep it slow

If you smoke while working, take a gentle puff now and then rather than drawing hard. Light fruity, tea-like or minty flavors are a nice refresher between tasks, and we have 36 nicotine-free flavors if you’d prefer to skip nicotine.

Not sure which flavor to pick? Tell the staff you’d like something for a work session, or try our Flavor Finder.

Working alone, with a manga break

In the afternoon, natural light comes in through the windows. Solo guests are our most common visitors, and many of them are working or studying. There’s no fixed time limit unless we’re full. Working with colleagues? Groups of up to 6 are welcome.

We’re on the 3rd floor (top floor). See How to Get to Gakugei-daigaku from Shibuya for step-by-step directions, and our Hookah in Tokyo guide if it’s your first time.

Questions before a daytime visit

Can I come on my own?

Yes. Solo guests are our most common visitors. You can read or work at your own pace, with the same minimum order rules as other guests. If you are new to hookah, tell the staff when choosing a flavor. You do not need to come with someone who already knows the menu.

Does a free seat charge mean the visit is free?

No. Arriving before 6 PM removes the seat charge; the pipe, drinks and any extra options still cost money. A Day Set may suit your plans better than ordering each item separately. If you stay into the evening, the seat charge remains based on your arrival time.

What should I include in a booking DM?

Send your preferred date, arrival time and number of guests, and mention that you would like a table for laptop work. If you need to take a call, let us know as well; meetings are allowed only where they do not disturb other guests. Open our Instagram DM to check availability. A requested seat depends on availability; sending a message is not a confirmed reservation until we reply.
